Settings menu input fields for old Unity UI system

This week’s focus was on the settings menu asset’s visuals development for the old Unity UI system and finishing up its features. While I personally use the new UI system wherever possible, the fact that most people still use the old one requires me to also fully support it in the asset. The old UI systems requires textures to be created beforehand in a graphics editor like Photoshop or GIMP. Since I don’t want to simply use the Unity provided standard textures I created some of my own. They are pretty basic but provide a cleaner and more modern look than the once available by default in Unity. While working on the support to automatically generate all the inputs for the old UI system I got reminded once again of the differences between the two systems and how much more I prefer the workflow, flexibility and ease of use of the new UI system. I’ve worked with the old systems for many years and it’s not even been 6 months since I started working with the new system but the development speed between the two systems is massive. I kinda even forgot how long things took with the old system but definitely got reminded about that this week. I’m pretty close to having the same feature set for the old system so I hope to finish that up next week and finally get started on tutorials, documentation and all that stuff that’s required to get the product seen by potential customers. Been a busy week outside of work too so that’s unfortunately all I had time for this week. I had planned to showcase some stuff but I haven’t felt great during the weekend and since I always write the devlog during the weekend I decided to just relax and get better instead so I can hopefully get back to work properly on Monday.

Notable tasks this week:

  • Further development of the settings/options menu asset
