Modular Building Models & Suburban House

This week’s focus was on making a collection of new modular 3D models for creating buildings. I used those models to create a new suburban house by hand to make sure the most important use cases are covered. This new house is now in the game and integrated with automatic furnishing and house placement. Lastly I did work a bit more on procedural building/house generation algorithms after analyzing the house I built. While the complete house (exterior, interior & roof) will not be possible to generate so soon I am confident that I can at least use the algorithms to help me design houses more quickly. I will use the algorithms at design time until I can generate the entire house. This means I will generate the exterior and at least parts of the roof to use as the foundation and complete it by finishing the partial roof and adding the room distribution by hand (room distribution/floor plan generation will require a separate algorithm).

Notable tasks this week:

  • Created collection of modular 3D models for creating buildings/houses

  • Created basic suburban house using new models

  • Extended algorithms for cell/grid based building/house generation
  • Further work on melee weapon modding support
